MG Caravans started as a husband, wife & father-in-law business in 1993 as a workshop only for the repair and servicing of touring caravans. The business began as one industrial unit and a Transit van in Hertford, servicing Hertfordshire and the surrounding counties, working to achieve Approved Workshop Status.
The team started to expand, a technician or two over time and by 1999 MG Caravans were selling caravans too and had gained a good solid name in the industry with manufacturers, suppliers and insurance companies alike, gaining accreditations in the industry including the Approved Workshop Scheme. The business extended to two industrial units in Hertford and then Sam & Emma joined the business on Saturdays and school holidays learning the ropes of the family business.
Throughout the early 2000’s the business continued to grow, taking on new touring caravan dealerships, increasing the size of our shop and workshop and growing our team.
In 2011 the business moved to a larger showroom allowing us to supply more caravans, increase the size of the shop and separate the workshop. Around this time Grandad retired from the business with the girls working full time.
In 2014 the business reached a major milestone as of 1st July moving to Royston to a bigger site, allowing the business to grow and extend its roots. Lucy and Kelly both also joined the team full time completing the “family” aspect of the family business. In October 2014 we joined the Swift family and became a dealership for caravans and motorhomes. From this we are still progressing and growing, taking on Sprite in 2015.
In 2015 we joined the NCC as an Approved Dealership showing our commitment to the industry and offering a high standard of customer service. Compounded with the approval of the Camping and Caravanning Club by the preferred dealership scheme in 2016.
In 2017 we have committed to raising money for EACH (East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices) which is a fantastic charity supporting families and care for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk.
In 2018 we have continued to grow, our success has been acknowledged at both the Royston Business awards and the Annual Swift Dealer awards. To celebrate our 25th year of business we have worked with Swift to launch an exclusive dealer special in the form of our Swift Accord range.
We couldn’t have done all this without the support of all of you, our customers, many of whom have supported us from day one. So thank you.
Charity & Fundraising
WHAT WE ARE DOING:
For 2017 we have decided to fundraise for the extremely worthwhile charity EACH (East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices). We put a lot of thought into the charity that we wanted to support. During 2017 we will be raising as much money as we possibly can for EACH through contributions from our caravan sales, shop sales and servicing costs, also through specific fundraising events throughout the year. We are hoping that with the continued support of our customers and suppliers we will be able to help this fantastic charity.
A BIT ABOUT EACH:
You can view the website for yourself to see how truely inspirational this charity is but as a brief overview: EACH offer care and support to life-threatened children, young people and their families across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk & Suffolk. By providing specialist nursing care, symptom management support, short breaks, wellbeing activities, therapies and counselling. EACH offer families flexibility and control over where they receieve their care and support, including where their child dies; at home, in hospital or at one of three hospices. The hospices are often fun and happy places where young people can live life to their full potential. They’re places where families feel safe, at home and where they can spend quality time together.
WHY EACH NEEDS OUR SUPPORT:
The specialist care and support provided by EACH is free of charge and relies on the voluntary donations of individuals and businesses – the more funds that they have the bigger difference that can be made to local children, young people and families.
